What is the difference between asynchronous (induction) and synchronous three-phase motors?
Three-phase asynchronous (induction) motors feature a rotor that spins slightly slower than the stator's rotating magnetic field. This speed difference, or slip, generates rotor currents through induction, making these motors highly durable and simple to maintain. In contrast, synchronous motors operate at exactly the same speed as the stator's rotating magnetic field, regardless of the load. They require independent DC excitation or permanent magnets, offering excellent power factor correction and constant operating speeds under fluctuating torque demands.
