Synchronous motors offer two distinct performance advantages: high operational efficiency and power factor correction capability. Induction motors draw reactive excitation current from the electrical grid, lagging the power factor. In contrast, synchronous motors can operate at a leading or unity power factor (cos φ = 1.0) via adjustable rotor DC excitation. This acts as a dynamic condenser, helping Hanoi factories stabilize voltage drops and avoid reactive power penalties from regional utilities like EVN.
Northern Vietnam’s humid subtropical climate can accelerate insulation degradation, leading to phase-to-phase short circuits. To address this, SIMO utilizes Class F or Class H insulation systems paired with Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI). VPI removes moisture and air pockets from the stator winding structure, replacing them with solventless resin. This process renders the windings highly resistant to moisture, chemical dust, and thermal cycles.
The choice depends on water availability and environment cleanliness. The YKS Series features a water-to-air cooling configuration, which is highly compact and efficient, making it ideal for plants with access to treated cooling water. The YKK Series uses an air-to-air heat exchanger, routing external air through cooling tubes. While slightly larger, YKK is highly reliable for dusty environments, such as mining and cement plants, as the internal motor housing remains sealed against ambient contaminants.
Ball mills require substantial starting torque due to the weight of the grinding media. The TDMK series is engineered with a robust starting winding (amortisseur winding) embedded in the rotor poles. This design enables the motor to start as an induction motor, developing high starting torque with low line-current draws. Once the motor approaches operating speed, the excitation control system synchronizes it to run efficiently at constant speed.
